New projects for the JCA Institute
The 1001 Bus Company is one of the companies sponsoring the Jelson da Costa Antunes Institute, a non-profit entity that is striving to transform the lives of underprivileged youngsters and their communities through projects in the fields of culture, education and vocational training.
The JCA Institute currently focuses its activities in São Gonçalo, Itaboraí and Niterói in Rio de Janeiro State through projects designed to develop the capacities of its young clientele through vocational training courses offered under the Teaching Workshop Project, as well as supporting young talents in the classroom through the Career Support Project. The elements common to these two Projects are: expertise, citizen training, commitment to sustainability and preparation for dealing with the challenges of work.
Projects for 2008
- In 2008, the Career Support Project will assist 41 teenagers from low-income families.
- Youngsters who graduated from High-School last year and passed the university entrance examination have the possibility of financing for their higher education.
- The Teaching Workshop Project is sized to offer 120 places in specialized in bus maintenance courses held during the year for high school graduates or students between 18 and 24 years old, from families with incomes of up to three minimum wages. During the first six months, free courses in electronic injection and mechanics will be offered, as well as electrical and cooling systems for vehicles.
- Changes were approved for 2008, through the inclusion of on-the-job training and internships for students of the Teaching Workshop Project.
